HOIMA, UGANDA: Security has been tightened with the antiriot police and army deployed heavily at the Karuzika palace in Hoima city amid reports of planned protests against Bunyoro Prime Minister leadership. The UPDF and antiriot police are deployed at the Kingdom headquarters more especially at the entrance of Karuzika palace and areas surrounding the palace.
Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine Regional police spokesperson has confirmed the development saying police were notified in their investigations that there is a group of people who are against the leadership of Hon Andrew Byakutaga the current Kingdom Prime Minister are planning to hold a peaceful demonstration at the Kingdom headquarters.
Hakiza adds that the deployment of security personnel was to protect the King, Kingdom Workers and resources.
“Security personnel both the army and the antiriot police have been deployed at Karuzika King’s Palace after a notification that some people are planning to hold demonstrations at the palace against the activities of the current Kingdom Prime Minister, am urging the general public to always report to police whoever has a misunderstanding to any Kingdom officer, we have already taught them the dangers of a peaceful demonstration in this upcoming city because we are expecting more investors to come to the oil city but with such demonstrations, foreign investors may be threatened,” Hakiza said.
He adds that the group is planning to have demonstrations also at Hoima Booma grounds and this is a threat to the local community since the ground nears Hoima Regional Referral Hospital and security couldn’t allow that and urged them to have a dialogue.
Hon. Andrew Byakutaga the Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom who is currently accused by the ruling clan members of mismanagement of his office had to seek help from security personnel after receiving threats from some people to do harm on him.
“I couldn’t take it for granted after several warnings from some people and therefore I had seek help from security because I was unsafe”. Mr. Byakutaga said.
