Victoria University unveils Prof. Augustine Ife as new Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics

Prof. Augustine Osamor Ifelebuegu has joined Victoria University as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs (DVCAA), the university announced Tuesday morning.

According to a Tuesday statement released by the University, Prof. Ifelebuegu’s appointment takes immediate effect today, February 1, 2022.

“Prof. Augustine Osamor Ifelebuegu has joined Victoria University as our new Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs (DVCAA) effective today,” VU said in a Tuesday tweet.

A thorough breed academic and Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, Prof Augustine Ifelebuegu is a highly innovative, exceptionally talented, and extremely versatile professional with over 24 years of post-graduation experience that spans the petroleum industry.

Prof. Lawrence Muganga the University Vice-Chancellor in a short interview said, the new DVC “brings a bold new vision and vigor to Victoria University and we are delighted that he has agreed to make a long-term commitment to the transformation process outlined in our strategic plan.”

“Prof. Augustine Ifelebuegu is a modern-day enterprising education leader who continues a tradition of outstanding leadership that focuses every day on embracing society’s transformation and demonstrating Victoria University’s relevance in educating first-class professionals and in connecting with communities and industries through our university’s unique Experiential Learning Education model,” he added.

“Victoria University is an exciting example of how a modern and enterprising university should be – how it should be forever young in spirit – and am sure Prof. Augustine will gladly look forward to the coming years and concede that he made the most marvelous and fulfilling decision to join Victoria University,” Muganga explained further.

Short Biography

Prof. Augustine Osamor Ifelebuegu graduated from the University of Benin with a BSc degree in Industrial Chemistry in 1998. He also holds MSc in Chemical Metallurgy, M.Eng in Environmental Engineering both from the University of Port Harcourt, and MSc in Water/Wastewater Engineering from Cranfield University. He is a Chartered Environmentalist and a Chartered Water & Environment Manager.

He is famed for pioneering and leading the development of Coventry University suites of energy programmes which grew to become a School of Energy, Construction and Environment in the Faculty of Engineering.

Research Interest

Prof. Augustine Ifelebuegu has been involved in research into the removal of emerging chemical contaminants (endocrine disruptors and pharmaceuticals) in water and wastewater by biological, physical, and advanced chemical oxidation processes. He is currently a senior lecturer in environmental technology and the postgraduate director of studies in oil and gas management at Coventry University in the UK.
