MBALE, UGANDA: President Museveni has directed that the late Teso Cultural leader, Papa Emorimor Augustine Osuban Lemukol be accorded a state burial as one of the high profile figures in the country.
Mr. Museveni revealed this on Sunday morning while officiating at the UPDF Tarehe Sita celebrations in Mbale describing the deceased as a great advocate of peace and unity in the Teso region. Adding that his devotion to preaching about moral and cultural values was paramount in shaping the region as one of the strongest ethnic regions in the country.
“I join the people of Teso, and the entire country to mourn the death of the Teso cultural leader His Highness Emorimor Papa Osuban Augustine Lemukol. I, therefore, in the great memory of Emorimor Papa Augustine Lemukol declare a state funeral,” said Museveni.
A state funeral is a public funeral ceremony, observing the strict rules of protocol held to honour people of national significance.
State funerals usually include much pomp and ceremony as well as religious overtones and distinctive elements of military tradition.
The Emorimor Augustine Osuban, 88, died on Saturday evening at Mulago hospital where he had been admitted for two weeks battling Covid.
