KIKUUBE, UGANDA: Several war veterans in Albertine and Rwenzori regions were forced to return back home during the verification exercise ahead of their compensation payment due to lack of clear identification.

According to the reports from the UPDF, many war veterans in the two regions presented forged documents that the campaign officers refused.

Speaking to DailyExpress in Kikuube District at the District Headquarters, the Bunyoro-Rwenzori Veterans spokesperson Maj. Ninsiima Rwemijuma said that a big number of veterans who turned up for verification exercise were forced to go back home due to failure to submit clear identification documents that approve their participation in the army.

The veterans lacked documents such as National IDs, Bank statements, among others while others had documents which were not corresponding with their National IDs where he says such people were not helped at all.

Ninsiima says in this campaign, there was also other people who had forged documents and such People were arrested and detained.

“We have found people with forged documents, they lost army IDs long ago, some lost their discharge certificates yet they were some of the requirements and some had got tired due to delayed compensation but now we have been preparing them so as to make them ready to receive their compensation fee because government is ready to pay them”. Said Maj. Ninsiima.

He later advised the veterans who were not helped to go other districts like Kiboga or else visitBombo Army Barracks for consideration.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Eddie Baingana the head of the verification exercise the exercise is still moving on smoothly despite some people’s failure to understand government’s intention.

According to Lieutenant Baingana, the intention of the exercise was to pay out all the war veterans and remove all forgeries and the exercise will continue until all the irregularities are removed before compensation begins.

“We have been paying people who are not legible to be paid, and so we want to clear out all forgeries so as to ensure that the person to compensated is legible for the payment, some people are getting money but children and windows of Veterans are not aware so you decide to pay school fees for your children and you leave the children of the veteran stuck”. Lieutenant Baingana said.

However, the Kikuube RDC Hon. Amulan Tumusiime thanked me UPDF for extending the verification exercise to the district level where he said that previously they used to move long distances to acquire support and also asked Veterans to utilize the compensation funds effectively.
