KAYUNGA, UGANDA: Residents of Busaana Town council in Kayunga district were on Sunday evening engulfed in shock following the sudden death of their engineer who fell into his newly constructed pit latrine and died instantly.
The deceased, Steven Anguyo, 32, who has been the Chief Plants Operator (CPO) working with the district works department is said to have fallen into his own pit-latrine while easing himself, the district CID, Mr. Innocent Dusabe confirmed on Monday morning.
Mr. David Mubialiwo the Busaana Town Council mayor said Anguyo, who has been a resident of Kawuku Village had retired home at around 5 pm when he went to the latrine to ease himself.
“While easing himself, the slab caved in and he fell into the newly constructed 40-feet pit-latrine. The slab also fell onto him,” Mr. Mubialiwo said.
He said it is one of the people he has been staying with at home who heard a loud bang in the toilet and alerted neighbours who rushed to the scene.
Later, the fire brigade and rescue team from Kayunga Town arrived at the scene and tried to retrieve him but found he had already died.
By press time, police in Kayunga was yet to release an official statement on the matter, with the body of the deceased set for burial on Tuesday, at his ancestral home in Busaana.
