IGANGA, UGANDA: Senior Rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia kicked off his 2022 National Rally Championship in high gear after roasting legendary drivers to win day one of the ongoing Kaliro Sugar Rally edition.

In the action-packed Saturday event, Rajiv who is navigated by co-driver Enoch Olinga completed the two competitive stages to finish off with a super special stage at the Nakalama truck parking yard.
The Ruparelia Group Managing Director turned rally driver beat established drivers including Hassan Alwi, Ponsiano Lwakataka, Ronald Sebuguzi and Kabega, and four others.

Split between Iganga District and Kaliro District, the two days action of the rally will cover a total distance of 276 kilometres, 124 of which are competitive with another 151 kilometres to be covered between the stages.

Shortly after winning the race, the Rajiv Rally Team took to Twitter to celebrate the video, saying thus “Day 1 flew by with promising results and even more mouth-watering displays from Rajiv Ruparelia & Enoch Olinga. #KaliroSugarRally.”

The rally organizers clarified that the second-day event happening on Sunday (March 13, 2022) will cover two stages running back-to-back starting with the 13 kilometres MJ Safaris test which is proceeded by the Kaliro Sugar test that runs for 18.80 kilometres.

The rally crews will then proceed to the service park and tackle the 19-kilometer Daudi Migereko section before returning to the service park for one last time before they attempt the final loop which shall see another pass through the MJ Safaris and Kaliro Sugar sections.
