MUKONO: 35-yr-old man arrested for killing Wife, Baby

“The suspect, due to pressure from the victim’s family of not providing basic necessities for his wife and son, was forced to invite them to Mukono during this month,” a police statement reads in part.

MUKONO, UGANDA: Police in Mukono district are have arrested a 35-year-old man on allegations of killing of his wife and their baby boy due to increasing pressure to provide for the family.

In a statement released on Monday evening, police said the suspect identified as Dan Nabasa in alleged murdered his wife, Nakamoga Rashida, and their baby boy, Gumikiriza Dan on the night of Friday, March 25, at Nyakiya zone, Sonde – Goma Division.

“The suspect, due to pressure from the victim’s family of not providing basic necessities for his wife and son, was forced to invite them to Mukono during this month,” a police statement reads in part.

Adding that “even in Mukono, he (Nabasa) failed to provide for them and continued to starve his family. This led to a domestic conflict, which culminated into the murder of both his wife and son.”

In a related development, Seeta police in Mukono still also has in custody a suspect identified as Butele Nelson, 30, for the suspected murder of Nakakawa Christine, a 28-year-old, businessman of Jogo zone, Misindye ward, Goma division, in Mukono district. 

According to police, the victim left her home on the 23rd of March 2022, at around 7 pm, to go and buy soya beans for her business, at the trading centre. But she did not return home. The following morning her body was found with stab wounds, near her home and her mobile phone missing.

As a result, the police canine was introduced to the scene where it led detectives to the home of Butele Nelson, who was arrested. 

The suspect and others still large are said to have first strangled the victim with a rope and them stabbed her on the right side of the head with a sharp object.

“It is very painful to lose lives of vulnerable persons like children and women.  We are aware the community is devastated to lose such residents in a tragic manner.  A team of our CLOs have held meetings with the locals communities to provide reassurances to them and further encourage them to avail any relevant information to us,” police said in a statement.
