KAGADI, UGANDA: On Wednesday this week, the Kagadi District speaker Hon. Magezi Muwonge called for a council meeting where 83% of the district councilors boycotted the meeting on issues concerned with the delayed payment of their allowances

Among the issues that were to be discussed was analysing and passing of the financial budget for the year 2022/2023 and analysing the findings of the Kinyarugonjo Sub county headquarters construction project among others.

Despite the boycott of the meeting by a bigger number of the council members, Hon. Magezi went ahead and chaired the council meeting which the councilors accused him of breaching the law.

The councilors, over 50 in number have already signed a document and they are to send it to the District Chairperson Hon. Yosiya B Ndibyami for approval to impeach the speaker

“The speaker was elected by we the councilors but instead of recognizing us, he is using his radical powers to organize the meeting without our consent which we have opposed and therefore we want him to leave the office”. Said the councilors.

The members say they are now having hardships in transporting themselves from rural areas to the district headquarters and other workplaces due to lack of financial support.

The councilors also accuse the District Chairperson Hon. Yosiya B Ndibyami of having connived with the Kagadi District Chief Financial Officer and other district government officials to swindle their allowance fees which have made them stay for three quarters without receiving a single penny.

In response, Mr. Yosiya Ndibyami said, besides the boycott of the council meeting by the members, the speaker couldn’t stop the meeting from going on because the issues that were to be discussed were vital and a few members who attended the meeting were representatives of the public.

“A few members who attended were representatives of the public so for that note the meeting had to continue and what the speaker was beneficial to the people of Kagadi District because we were supposed to analyze and pass the financial budget for the year 2022/2023 before the end of this week”. Said Hon. Ndibyami.

Hon. Ndibyami asked the angry District councilors to be culm and promised to organize for a round table meeting to solve their grievances for the better Kagadi District.

At the time of this report, Hon. Magezi the Kagadi District speaker was yet to release a statement on his allegations since an attempt by our reporter to get him via phone call were boomerang since he could not pick phone calls.
