Kigezi Teens Magazine, a youth initiative aimed at “Empowering the Youth and Transforming lives of the Young Generation” was established by Eddie Nahwera way back in the lockdown 2020 along with a young focused team of editors. As of today, the publication stands to be the first Teens magazine ever in Western Uganda.
Eddie, the CEO of the trendy magazine says he conceived the idea to start it up during the lockdown thanks to his deep passion as a young writer, and the deep need to advocate for the Teens’ rights, raise talents, fight AIDS/HIV, embrace the regional culture, encourage self-employment, hard work and many other objectives amongst the young generation.
The team behind Kigezi Teens Magazine was delegated to different roles in order to perform specific tasks so as to deliver amazing spectacular work. They sparked off with their first edition the previous year in 2021 and that sparked off the start of the magazine journey.
The editions of the magazine are always a complement of Education, Politics, Culture, Health, Inspirational stories, Tourism, Sports, Youth Creativity, and self Sustainance in great content among others. The teens have always found it enjoyable through reading and flip through a variety of pages of the Kigezi Teens Magazines for their favorite content.
The magazine also covers almost every activity that takes place within the regional boundaries throughout the year. The magazine team is focused on achieving lots of objectives in the future and yearns for everyone’s involvement and support.
The magazine has transformed the lives of the youth in Western Uganda benefiting them as most teens enjoy their leisure time as they read and compile articles for the next editions, the magazine keeps the teens busy and active thus developing their reading and writing skills plus expanding their vocabulary, the magazine is always a conversation starter at home since most parents are able to advise their children on meaningful conversations, teens learn a lot of what they haven’t been taught in their schools, developing and nurturing young writers.
More still, the team always conducts annual Teens Conferences where they share incorporate testimonies, deliver PIASCY messages, and educate on creativity and hard work among others. Talents have also been embedded and raised like artists, comedians, emcees, dancers, and many others, awarding of the best inspirational youth which also motivates the youth to work hard towards achieving the set awards.
The team has also been able to give voice on radios and TVs with special messages to the youth on various topics such as the effects of drugs, Covid 19 preventive measures, sexual reproductive health, and many more all geared to keep the teens safe. They have also been able to educate and inspire a lot of people even beyond their regional boundaries.
The team always organizes and arranges for the Kigezi Teens Awards at the climax of every year in order to congratulate and thank the most hardworking youth within the region and this has also encouraged hard work amongst the youth.
“The magazine has been recognized as the best in Western Uganda and many other parts of the country and we are seriously pressing on in order to achieve all our set goals in youth empowerment and also outcompete many other magazines on the world market. Challenges
According to Eddie, the Kigezi Teens Magazine team is facing a lot of challenges some of which include inadequate equipment like strong cameras, and inadequate financial support if at all some of their challenges are solved, they look forward to achieving all their set goals and target the general public and the nation at large. This is high time fellow youth should act too because a dream doesn’t become reality through magic but it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.
