Ismaili Community bails out thousands of Muslim families with Eid-Al-Fitr goodies

The organization on Saturday, April 30, delivered food and other essential commodities to over 2,000 families gathered at various collection points at Kibuli Mosque, the Uganda Islamic Council Headquarters, and Wandegya Mosque.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Ismaili community in Uganda under the global initiative Ismaili Civic has bailed out thousands of Muslim families with loads of food items to thousands of Muslim families ahead of Eid- Al Fitr celebrations.

The organization on Saturday, April 30, donated food and other essential commodities to over 2,000 families gathered at various collection points at Kibuli Mosque, the Uganda Islamic Council Headquarters, and Wandegya Mosque.

Among the relief aid items donated included; sugar, rice, wheat flour, soap, cooking oil among others, many of which their prices have hiked in the recent times, and therefore the relief aid comes in handy to relieve them of the economic stress as they celebrate Eid Day happening at the beginning of May.

Mr. Azhar Bandali Jaffer, Chairman of the Outreach drive on behalf of the Aga Khan National Council who is also the Managing Director of Fairway Hotel, noted that every year around Eid they support Muslims in need and noted that such an initiative and what drives their motivation to support Ugandans especially Muslims.

“It is our mission to serve humanity and improve the quality of life of the communities in which we live, but also, from a young age, we are taught the importance of supporting the community and doing charity work, so that’s why we support our brothers in need,” Jaffer said.

He added that by doing such humanitarian activities aimed at improving the communities in which they live, they don’t expect any payback by the beneficiaries, but it’s in their religious teachings that you have to share with the less privileged in your community for better co-existence and then God rewards you more.

Nabila Meghani, a member on the Ismail Community Outreach Committee told this website that as an organization, they remain committed to supporting Ugandans with the little they have year after year.
“We’re here to serve Ugandans as much as we can and so far we are happy that our humanitarian activities have some other donors who have joined this cause. so every time they donate we add what we have and deliver to our needy brothers and sisters,” said Ms, Nabila.

Speaking to DailyExpress shortly after the donation, Ms. Jasmine Halani, the head of Ismaili Civic Community in Uganda noted that the organization which is an initiative of the Agha Khan Group aims to better the life of vulnerable persons through various donation drives reaching out to different communities allover the country.

“Ismaili carries out various donation drives occasionally, and this time we opted for food items since it’s Ramadan, and communities are celebrating Eid soon,” Halani said, adding that; ” the organization strives to ensure the betterment of life for various person’s, not only Muslims but the needy people in Uganda at large.”

Ismaili CIVIC is a global program under which the Shia Ismaili Muslim community across the world has united around its centuries-old tradition of serving humanity by rendering voluntary service to improve the quality of life of the communities in which they live, regardless of faith, gender and background.

The Community for the last couple of years has been supporting Muslims globally under its mission; ”to serve humanity and improve the quality of life of the communities in which we live”. The initiative brings together Ismailis from around the world, all working towards efforts of civic engagement and good citizenship.
