Vipers SC declared UPL champions after Express win

Vipers won their fifth league title with 4 games to spare sitting comfortably at the top with 64 points ahead of KCCA in second on 50 points, and URA sit third on 49 points.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: SC Vipers were on Friday declared champions of the Uganda Premier League after a comfortable 3-0 win over last season’s champions Express Fc at St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

Vipers won their fifth league title with 4 games to spare sitting comfortably at the top with 64 points ahead of KCCA in second on 50 points, and URA sit third on 49 points.

A first-half double from Yunus Sentamu and Bright Anukani’s second-half strike was all the Venoms needed to humble Red Eagles who remain in the sixth position on the table with 42 points.

Sentamu, who is eyeing to win the topscorer’s boot put the hosts in the lead inside 25 minutes and doubled the lead 9 minutes later, all goals being set up by Hilary Mukundane.

Playmaker Anukani then sealed the title win in the 60th minute with a deflected shot that slotted past the Red Eagles’ keeper to confirm the venoms as this season’s champions which now sees them overtake URA to become the fourth most successful club in Uganda’s league history behind SC Villa (16), KCCA (13), and Express (7).
