Three dead, scores injured in fatal Nakasongola accident

The grisly accident happened about 10kms to Migyera Town when a Taxi Registration Number UAX 303F overturned after suffering a tyre burst at around 11:00am on Tuesday morning.

NAKASONGOLA, UGANDA: At least three people have been confirmed dead with several others injured after a passenger taxi en-route Kampala from Masindi overturned in Nakasongola District. The deceased included two unidentified female adults and one female juvenile.

The grisly accident happened about 10kms to Migyera Town when a Taxi Registration Number UAX 303F overturned after suffering a tyre burst at around 11:00am on Tuesday morning.

Eyewitnesses allege that the Taxi driver lost control after the leading to several overturns along the way before bumping into a nearby bush.

Traffic Police Spokesperson, Ms. Faridah Nampiima confirmed the accident in a police statement released Tuesday afternoon.

“The territorial police at Migyera has today (May 17, 2022) at around 11.30 am, registered a single fatal accident, involving a taxi registration number UAX, 303F that was traveling from Masindi to Kampala,” said Ms. Nampiima.

She added that the injured were taken to nearby health centres for first aid treatment as police investigate the cause of the tyre burst.

A recent report by the traffic police has indicated that at least 120 people have perished in fatal accidents recorded between April 24 and May 14.

According to the report, most accidents are a result of human error including drunk driving, using the phone or distracted driving, driving vehicles in dangerous mechanical conditions vehicles, driving when fatigued, reckless driving, and incompetent driver
