NRM’s Andrew Ojok Oulanyah wins Omoro By-election by Landslide Victory

Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, the son of the late speaker Jacob Oulanyah has been declared winner of the Omoro By-election after posting the highest number of votes from Thursday’s election.

OMORO, UGANDA: Mr. Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, the son of the late speaker Jacob Oulanyah has emerged winner of Omoro county parliamentary seat after posting the highest number of votes in Thursday’s Omoro By-election.

According to the results announced by Omoro district returning officer, Mr. Kagona Moses, Ojok of the ruling National Resistance Movement garnered 14,224 votes while his closest contenders NUP’s Simon Toolit Akecha got 1,633 votes and FDC’s Odong Justine polled 529 votes.

Other independent candidates; Terrence Odon got 532 votes, Jimmy Walter Onen got 95 votes while Oscar Kiiza who represented the Alliance for National Transformation party polled only 63 votes.

The Omoro County seat fell vacant following the death of former area MP Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori who passed away on March 20, 2022, in Seattle, Washington, United States barely a year after being voted Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
