KAMPALA, UGANDA: The State House has finally opened up on reports that President Museveni fired senior directors at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in the purported changes of its administration.
The reports whose authenticity and source remained unknown yesterday (Monday) made rounds on social media alleging that the President had in the recent changes fired KCCA senior officials including top directors.
However, according to the Presidential Deputy Senior Press Secretary Mr. Faruk Kirunda, these reports of the reshuffles in the KCCA administration are false and baseless, and the State House is not aware of such changes.
Kirunda in a tweet said the State House would make formal announcements in case of new appointments and sackings of top KCCA officials.
“State House is not aware of any changes at KCCA. In case of such administrative changes, we shall communicate through official channels,” he tweeted.
President Museveni is responsible for the appointment and firing of KCCA directors and the Executive Director. The last time he made changes in the Authority’s administration was in June 2020 when he appointed Dorothy Kisaka the substantive KCCA ED, replacing Jennifer Musisi Ssemakula who had resigned, and Eng Andrew Kitaka who had occupied the Executive Director’s office in an acting capacity.
In the 2020 appointments, Museveni refused to elevate Eng Kitaka and James Sserunkuuma who had been serving as ED and deputy ED in an acting capacity. Eng David Luyimbazi Ssali has been serving as substantive Deputy Executive Director since then.
The president also appointed former deputy lord mayor Sarah Kanyike as director gender, community service and production after her short stint as a junior minister. In the same shakeup, Museveni appointed Dr Daniel Okello Ayen as director public health and environment, and Grace Akullo as director human resource and administration.
