Masindi Journalist shot dead by security guard

Aseera who was a news anchor at the popular Masindi radio was killed by the security guard at a Soda Depot in Masindi town in the wee hours of Wednesday morning at around 12am.

MASINDI, UGANDA: Gerald Aseera, a journalist attached to Kings Broadcasting Services (93.6 Kings Fm) in Masindi District has been shot dead by a private security guard, DailyExpress understands.

According to police reports, Aseera who was a news anchor at the popular Masindi radio was killed by the security guard at a Soda Depot in Masindi town in the wee hours of Wednesday morning at around 12am.

The deceased’s colleague who preferred anonymity told this website that Aseera was just moving in town after work when the guard suspected him of being a thief and shot at him.
“Aseera was shot dead last night by a private security guard. He was just moving in town and the guard suspected him of being a thief. He shot him in the chest,’’ said the colleague.

The colleague adds that the journalist was evacuated and rushed for medical attention but died moments after reaching Masindi General Hospital.

The Police in Masindi were yet to issue a statement on the deceased’s shooting but said investigations had been opened to establish the cause of the shooting.

Aseera’s body was by press time still at the hospital mortuary for further port-mortem.
