Two dead, scores injured in fatal accident along Nile Avenue in Kampala

The injured were evacuated and rushed to Mulago hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to City mortuary for postmortem.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: At least two people have been confirmed dead, with several others injuries after a taxi motor vehicle was involved in a nasty accident along Nile Avenue in Kampala on Friday evening.

According to Traffic Police spokesperson, Ms. Faridah Nampiima, the accident happened at around 7:30pm on Friday, June 10, at the roundabout near rarion One Village, along the Nile Avenue.

“The territorial Police at Central Police Station Kampala, has today evening at around 1930hrs registered a single fatal accident at Nile avenue, Radio one village,central division in the Kla District,” Ms. Nampiima said in a police tweet.

According to Ms. Nampiima, “It’s alleged that a commuter taxi Reg no UAW 987Y, was traveling from the direction of Speke Road facing Clement Road with unidentified numbers of passengers on board on a high speed, and while approaching a sharp corner it failed to break and failed to negotiate the corner leading to the accident.”

She added that due to high speed, the taxi eventually fell down inside the UBC subway roundabout killing two occupants on spot and many unidentified sustained serious injuries.
