Besigye arrested again over protests against high commodity prices

The former opposition FDC President had also printed out thousands of “Red Card” fliers which he was throwing on the streets with messages on them calling for reduction of the cost of living by cutting the taxes on fuel and essential goods.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The People’s Front for Transition (PFT) leader Rt. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has been arrested and detained at the Central Police station in Kampala as he resumed his protests against government inaction to cushion vulnerable Ugandans against skyrocketing commodity prices in the country.

The former four-time presidential candidate was seized on Tuesday, June 14, at around 1pm in downtown Kampala as he started mobilizing city traders to wake up and join him in what he described as “the struggle to liberate Uganda from President Museveni’s government that has been in power since 1986”.

He was however intercepted by dozens of law enforcement officers on Namirembe road where he was addressing a crowd on top of his Toyota Land Cruiser.

His arrest comes just hours ahead of today’s National Budget reading at Kololo ceremonial grounds where President Museveni will preside over as the Chief Guest.
