Hoima Catholic Diocese seeks UGX 40Bn for construction of specialized hospital

Upon completion, the facility will comprise specialized pediatric, antenatal, gynecology, emergency, radiology, physiotherapy, and theater wings.

HOIMA, UGANDA: Hoima Catholic Diocese is hunting for Shillings 40billion for the construction of a specialized hospital to boost healthcare services in the diocese and outside Bunyoro sub-region. The proposed multi-billion St Mary’s Children and Women specialized hospital will be situated on Bujumbura hill in Hoima City West division, on a 7-acre piece of land belonging to the diocese.

Upon completion, the facility will comprise specialized pediatric, antenatal, gynecology, emergency, radiology, physiotherapy, and theater wings. The facility will have a capacity of 272 beds. Rev. Father Dominic Ndugwa, the Chancellor of Hoima Catholic Diocese, says that they intend to collect the money from donations from friends of the diocese both within and abroad, Non-governmental organisations-NGOs operating in the region, various companies, business communities, Christians, and area leaders.

He has rallied the people of Bunyoro and the country at large to own the project and contribute generously towards the construction works.

Rev. Father Devis Musiime Mugisa, the coordinator of the project says that following the influx of thousands of people into the Bunyoro sub-region in anticipation of employment in the crucial oil and gas sector, there is a need to establish more health facilities to offer specialized treatment to the growing population.

Rev. Father Jude Ssemambo, the in-charge of publicity for the project says there is a need to set up various health facilities in the Bunyoro sub-region to tackle various health-related complications and ease the pressure on Hoima Regional Referral hospital, which is already overwhelmed by the ever-increasing-number-of patients.

The construction of the five-storied facility will be in phases lasting for seven years. The Diocese of Hoima, whose evangelization was spearheaded by the Missionaries of Africa, started on August 9th, 1965.

The Diocese covers Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Kagadi, Kakumiro and Kikuube districts.
