MBARARA: Prison warder shoots lover dead, kills self

MBARARA, UGANDA: Police in Mbarara City is investigating circumstances under which a prison officer shot his lover dead and killed himself too in a suicidal shooting act.

Mr. Chemutai Aloysious, 27, a prison warder No. 19015 attached to Kakiika Prison allegedly shot and killed Ms. Adong Magodalena, 24, a prison wardress No.19109 attached to Prison Academy and Training School Luzira in Kampala.

According to a police statement issued by Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira, it is alleged that Ms. Adong had on Saturday, June 11, visited Chemutai who she had been in a relationship with for quite some time now.

However, on a fateful day, Chemutai would turn against Adong and shoot her dead while on duty at Kakiika prison on Monday, June 13 at about 07:55 pm before later turning the gun against himself to take his own life as well.

Kasasira explains that police visited the scene and recovered an SMG Rifle No. UG PRI 49001094-01247 with 24 rounds of ammunition and three cartridges of the discharged bullets which might have been used in the incident.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mbarara Regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem as inquiries into the matter continue.
