EC kicks off nomination of candidates for Soroti East by-election

SOROTI, UGANDA: The nomination of candidates for Soroti East by-election has officially kicked off today (Monday, July 18-19, 2022) according to Christine Eyu, the Returning Office Soroti District.

“We are ready and the nomination will start at exactly 9:00 am and end at 5:00 pm at Soroti Electoral Commission head office,” Eyu said.

“We call upon candidates vying for the seat to keep time and peace during and after the elections,” she added.

Eyu stated that their mandate as the Electoral Commission is to make sure that there are free and fair elections.

“Only ten people including the candidate will be allowed to access the venue and should make sure that COVID-19 guidelines are followed,” remarked Eyu.

The Soroti east seat became vacant after the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Moses Attan of FDC as the area Member of Parliament.

The polling day for the by-election is scheduled to take place on July 28, 2022.

According to the Election Commission, Soroti East Constituency has 35,277 voters, 13 wards, 84 cells, and 63 polling stations.
