NBS journalist, Simon Kaggwa Njala, who is also a politician and identifies with the Democratic Party has come out to reveal the reason for the downfall of the DP.

According to Njala, as DP members, they lost it the day they decided to let Mao lead them disguising to as a national party.

Njala says this, in due process, made the party lose its identity and choosing Mao as a leader was a regrettable mistake as he lacked the credentials of a Democrat according to the journalist.

The veteran journalist is in fact so glad that Mao has left and this will help them to rebuild the party.

“DP lost track when we started living a lie. Posturing as a national party and ditching our identity. Having Mao for President was a regrettable mistake. He lacked the true credentials of a democrat. The earlier he leaves our party the better. We shall someday be Democratic Paarte,” said Njala.

Njala’s comments however have been met with widespread criticism. Some of his followers pointed out that the only credentials Mao lacked was being a non-Muganda yet DP has always been a staple party for Baganda primarily.

Mao hasn’t resigned yet or shown any signs. He however continues to receive backlash from the Opposition figures.

This is after his meeting with Museveni that saw the two sign a working cooperation between the NRM and DP. The following day after this meeting saw Mao appointed the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

A section of some DP members have vowed to ditch the former presidential candidate and embark on rebuilding.

Some people however have pointed out that Mao is only being criticized due to tribalism. This is because his DP predecessors such as Benedicto Kiwanuka and Paul Ssemwogerere all worked with ruling governments despite them being Opposition.
