KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Uganda Police is currently on a manhunt for two fraudsters of Indian origin who have been collecting money from people in various districts disguising themselves as boda boda dealers.

According to police spokesperson, CP Fred Enanga, they received complaints from police in Fort Portal, Bundibugyo, Bushenyi, and Nakasongola districts about the group of fraudsters involving two people of Indian origin who have been masquerading as employees of ‘Boda Boda Banja Limited’ claiming to be giving out Boda Bodas (motorcycles) on loans.

“They go into these districts and register the unsuspecting clients at a fee of sh1m, then they promise to ferry the motorcycles and hand them over to the clients in a period of two weeks,” he noted.

Enanga noted that the group leaves behind contacts that they later switch off, and also never use their real names.

“We want to caution members out there especially in the rural districts to be careful while applying for motorcycles, especially from this ‘Boda Boda Banja’. We have not gotten any complaints from other districts yet but we urge people to be on alert and inform the nearest police if they see them,” he added.

He stressed a joint security team is already on the ground to hunt down the culprits.
