Seven arrested over stolen motor vehicles, cattle theft

ASP Owoyesigyire says police managed to recover a motor vehicle UAY 581R reported to have been stolen from Ndejje on the 22nd of July and 32 heads of cattle.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Police at Old Kampala in conjunction with the Flying Squad Unit have arrested seven suspects on allegations of stealing motor vehicles and theft of cattle.

In the operation which was conducted on the 28th July 2022 in Lungujja Lubaga Division Kampala, police says they managed to recover a motor vehicle UAY 581R reported to have been stolen from Ndejje on the 22nd of July and 32 heads of cattle.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspects upon interrogation confessed that they are also involved in the robbery of different types of motor vehicles including; Nadia, Wish, Ipsum and Noah.

Owoyesigyire explains the suspects remove the rear seats of these motor vehicles and use them to transport stolen cattle stolen from Nakasongola, Nakaseke, Kiboga, and Kyankwazi districts which cows are later sold to two people identified by the suspects as Lubinga Musa from whose home in Lungujja we recovered 9 cows and Bika Joseph where 23 cows were recovered from his home in Lungujja.

He confirmed that the two buyers were also arrested to help with the investigations.

Owoyesigyire identified the other suspects as; Maseruka Ashraf, Seruwu Muhammad, Semanda Ivan, Tumwine Fred, and Kamugisha Brian.

He said the seven are all detained at Cps Kampala flying squad headquarters on allegations of theft of cattle and theft of a motor vehicle while police operations are still ongoing.
