UPDF Releases Gen Tumwine’s Burial Program

According to the released program, the official vigil for the late four-star general will be held on Sunday, August 28 at his home in Nakasero, Kampala, and this will be followed by National prayers to be held at Kololo Ceremonial grounds on Monday, August 29, 2022.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The former security minister and army commander Gen. Elly Tumwine will be buried Tuesday next week, according to the official funeral program released Saturday afternoon.

Gen Tumwine died on Thursday this week at Aga Khan Hospital Nairobi where he has admitted about a fortnight ago battling lung cancer.

According to the released program, the official vigil for the late four-star general will be held on Sunday, August 28 at his home in Nakasero, Kampala, and this will be followed by National prayers to be held at Kololo Ceremonial grounds on Monday, August 29, 2022.

Soon after Kololo prayers, the body of late Gen. Tumwine will be flown to his ancestral home at Mukuru village, Rwemikoma Sub County in Kazo District.

On Tuesday 30th August 2022, a Requiem Service will be held at the deceased’s country home in Mukuru Rwemikoma, Kazo District, and thereafter burial at the same place.

The UPDF Spokesperson, Brig. Gen Felix Kuliagye notes that for the Requiem mass at Kololo, invitations will be limited for only a category of persons who will be conducted by the Directorate of Protocol before the mass kicks off.

“There will be invitations for some categories of mourners for the requiem service at Kololo. Those to be invited will be contacted by the Directorate of Protocol and will be required to undergo COVID-19 tests at Kololo Independence Grounds on Sunday 28th August 2022. The rest of the mourners willing to join the requiem service at Kololo are equally welcome and will be duly guided by Protocol on the sitting arrangement, in view of the prevailing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Kulaigye said.
