KAMPALA, UGANDA: Veteran Communications Specialist, Mr. Simon Peter Kasyate has been appointed the new Head of Public and Corporate Affairs at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
He replaces Ms. Juliet Bukirwa Muwanguzi who has been the acting spokesperson of the institution since Peter Kaujju’s resigned to join UMEME as their publicist.
Kasyate, an authentic communicator, strategist and events moderator joins the KCCA communications department with immediate effect.
Previously a communications head at Uganda Electricity Generation Company (UEGCL), Kasyate resigned from his position in 2020 following four years of service and has since tried his shots elsewhere for a big stake but all was in vain.
After finally landing the big role, Kasyate made a tour of the Government Citizens Interaction Centre (GCIC) under which KCCA falls and held a meeting with its head Marcella Karekye who expressed that he was indeed “fired up” for the job.
“My team and I are so fired up for the collaborative actions ahead! Let’s start the noble but uphill task to get us all love our city and the city to love us back,” Kasyate said.
Ms. Karekye welcomed Kasyate to the fray of government service, adding that the GCIC will offer all necessary support.
Simon Kasyate, renowned for his eloquence and flamboyancy, has previously worked with Smart Card Foundation, South African electricity Generation Company ESKOM and Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL), European Union Uganda office among others.
Over 20 years ago, he started out as a TV presenter with WBT TV and subsequently an active journalist with Monitor newspaper from where he joined NTV where from he plunged into corporate communications. Simon Kasyate also worked with KFM radio where he used to host a talk show called Hard Talk which used to air every Saturday.
The new role naturally requires Kasyate to defend all KCCA decisions and officials including the Lord Mayor whose brand of politics he despised at some point.
Kasyate, is reported to be taking home a monthly gross pay of Shs14m and quietly reported for work about two weeks ago joining a team comprising of the likes of his former workmate at Monitor Publications, Mr. Robert Kalumba.
As he settles into the KCCA role, the versatile Simon Kasyate (currently having self-induction around City Hall) has also quit his other role of hosting Desert Island Discs program on Capital FM every Sunday (7-8pm) which management for the Kamwokya-based station has since assigned to Flavia Tumusiime Kabuura.
