A video circulating on social media showing a newly constructed bridge collapsing down during its commissioning has gone viral and prompted hundreds of comments.

The 10-seconds video first shared by Africa Facts Zone was allegedly captured in one of the rural areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

In the video (which you can watch below), the local pedestrian bridge which was being commissioned by local officials fell in immediately after cutting the ribbon collapsing down with the local dignitaries on it.

The footbridge was reportedly meant to help people cross a river during the rainy seasons, as the old makeshift bridge would often submerge during deluges.

A group of people mounted on the bridge, which was less than two meters wide. At the end of it, a red ribbon was fastened across the rails, and one of the officials was set to cut it with scissors.

While they were on top, a group gathered below to watch the ceremony and celebrate the official opening.

The footbridge succumbed to pressure when the ribbon was cut, and it collapsed and broke into two as people stood on it.
