TORORO: Businessman, 7-yr-old son killed by armed thugs

According to eyewitnesses at the scene of crime, it is alleged that the two armed thugs, two in number, first disguised themselves as mobile money clients and later ordered Sejikeye to surrender the money but was shot at as he hesitated to surrender to them the money.

TORORO, UGANDA: Police in Tororo district is investigating the death of 33-year old Businessman and his seven year old who were shot and killed by armed thugs on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified, as Sejikeyen Didier, a mobile money agent, and his son (Samuel Niyokubawa) both residents of Green Land Cell, Ticaf ward, Osukuru Town Council in Tororo District.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene of crime, it is alleged that the two armed thugs first disguised themselves as mobile money clients and later ordered Sejikeye to surrender the money but was shot at as he hesitated to surrender to them the money.

In the scuffle, a stray bullet caught his 7-yr-old son and also died instantly.

Mr. Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said police has already started hunting the suspected robbers.

“Unidentified armed robbers dressed in overcoats attacked and shot Didier Sejikeye, 33, a money changer/mobile money agent. The stray bullet also killed Samuel Niyokubawa, 7, his son, who was a pupil of Mudakori Primary School,” he said.

“The scene was visited by Tororo District Police Commander SP Fred Ahimbisibwe, with homicide detectives and scene of crime officers. Investigations are ongoing,” Mr. Mugwe added.

Police confirmed that postmortem for the two bodies was done at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital and the bodies were handed over to their relatives for burial.
