GULU: Church wall collapses down killing mother and her two children

The Father of the children, Emmanuel Akena who was sleeping in the sitting room of their house escaped with minor injuries and was admitted to hospital.

GULU, UGANDA: A mother and her two children were on Thursday night crashed to death by a collapsing wall of a local church named Christ the Center Ministries in Kasubi, Central sub-ward, Bar-dege-Layibi division in Gulu City.

The deceased have been identified as Mercy Anena, 28, and her two children, Tracy Lamaro, 4, and Abigail Lagum who was aged only 2.

The church which is owned by Kenyan pastor Ronald Munyao neighbours the home where the tragedy took place.

Area police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong says the bodies of the deceased persons were taken to Gulu Regional referral hospital for a post-mortem

Patrick Oola Lumumba, the Mayor of Bar-dege Layibi division urged the grieving family to be patient as they negotiate with Christ the Center Ministries for compensation.

The Mayor added that the Ministry and all buildings in the division will be required to get construction permit from the City engineer before going on with any building in the City

Police have opened up a criminal case against Crunx Engineering Company for rash and negligence.

Cases of building collapsing have been in the increase in the recent years and most of it have been because of Engineering defects
