Former NRM Candidate remanded for defrauding Magistrate sh450m in fake land deal

Bamwesigye who appeared before Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to Luzira prison until September 23, 2022, for further hearing.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Willis Mbabazi Bamwesigye, the former NRM candidate in Masaka City mayoral elections has been charged and remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly conning sh450m from a judicial officer in a fake land deal.

Bamwesigye, 35, a businessman and a resident of Jinja Kalori Nabweru division, Nansana municipality in Wakiso district is alleged to have taken through false pretences sh450m from a Grade One Magistrate Dorothy Bagyenyi.

State prosecution contends that between 2019 and 2021 within Kampala district, Bamwesigye with the intention to defraud Bagyenyi obtained sh450m by falsely pretending that he was selling to her a piece of land situated at Masheruka in Sheema district which was not true.

At the time of defrauding her money, Bagyenyi was presiding over Buganda Road and Palisa Chief Magistrates’ Courts.

Bamwesigye who appeared before Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to Luzira prison until September 23, 2022, for further hearing.
