HORROR: 14-year-old girl raped and killed in Mukono

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, it is suspected that the victim was sexually assaulted before she was murdered in an incident that is believed to have taken place on September 16.

MUKONO, UGANDA: Police in Mukono has arrested two suspects on allegations of raping and murdering a 14-year-old primary four pupil at Kiswa Primary School, in Nama sub country, Mukono district.

The deceased identified as Betty Kiiza a resident of Kituba village in the same sub county was found dead on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022.

“On Saturday 17th, Sept 2022, the Police received information of a dead body lying in the bushes of Kituba village, Mpooma Parish, Nama Sub-county in Mukono district,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, adding that when officers responded to the scene with the K9 unit, the canine dogs led them to two suspects who are now in police custody.

“The dog led the police to the recovery of different exhibits like the gumboots used by the assailants and also managed to arrest two suspects who are believed to have participated in the murder,” he emphasised.

“The suspects have been identified as Martin Nvuyukule, 27 and Oriema Mikaire, 28, both currently detained at Mukono Police station.”

Owoyesigyire explained that after physical observation of the deceased’s body, “it is suspected that the victim was sexually assaulted before she was murdered in an incident that is believed to have taken place on September 16.

The deceased’s body was conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem as investigations into the incident continue.

According to a 2020 Sex Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) report issued by police, a total of 6,888 children, including 6,805 girls and 83 boys were defiled in six months.

A year earlier, 7, 216 cases of defilement were reported in the same period. .
