Inmate charged over attempted rape of 7-year-old girl

According to Prisons Spokesperson Mr. Frank Baine, the convict identified as Wilson Magombe attempted to assault the girl while he was working at Namalu prison farm last week on Friday, September 16, 2022 adding that the Prisoner has since been charged with assault.

NAKAPIRIPIRIT, UGANDA: The Uganda prisons service has confirmed a case of sexual assault after one convicted prisoner attempted to rape a seven-year-old girl in Nakapiripirit, Northern Uganda.

According to Prisons Spokesperson Mr. Frank Baine, the convict identified as Wilson Magombe attempted to assault the girl while he was working at Namalu prison farm last week on Friday, September 16, 2022 adding that the Prisoner has since been charged with assault.

“Fortunately, the girl was rescued and taken to Matanyi hospital for medical examination on Police instructions and Assault was confirmed,” Baine said in a prisons statement on Tuesday, 20 September 2022.

He added that the Uganda Prisons Service is ensuring that the girl gets treatment and also urged parents around Prisons farms to avoid letting young children go through isolated Prisons gardens alone.

He also commended the residents around the farm who helped to rescue the girl from the monstrous act, fore pledging to ensure safety and security of the communities nearing the prisons farms.

“Uganda Prisons Service highly applauds those who helped to rescue the girl and promises to ensure safety and security of communities around Prisons,” he said.

The incident comes when cases of convicted inmates committing crime are on the rise in the country,

On September 16, 2020 at least 223 inmates escaped from Moroto prison after attacking the prison wardens and stealing guns and ammunition from the armoury.
