Man kills wife before fleeing home in Mbale

MBALE, UGANDA: Busoba police in Mbale district are hunting for a man who is suspected to have killed his wife by hitting her head using a blunt object before fleeing the home.

Mukhaye Jesca, a female adult aged 26 years, a resident of Namakye village, Lumbugu parish, Busiu sub county in Mbale district was reportedly killed by her husband Mungalya Vincent, 44, of the same residence.

Elgon region police spokesperson, ASP Rogers Taitika confirmed the development in a statement released on Tuesday, September 20. Taitika says that the body of the deceased was discovered by a one resident identified as Nekesa Robbinah who had gone to borrow a panga.

“It was reported that on September 18, 2022 at around 0700/C, a one Nekesa Robbinah went to the home of Vincent Mungalya to borrow a panga and on arrival, she noticed that the door was half closed so she knocked while calling the names of the owners but there was no response. She pushed the door open, entered and drew the bedroom curtain and saw someone laying still under the blanket,” ASP Taitika said in a statement.

However, according to police, Nekesa rushed to the area chairperson, Tumwa Charles to report the matter and was accompanied by Nekesa to the scene and upon removing the blanket, they confirmed that Mukhaye Jesca was dead and her husband (Mungalya Vincent) was nowhere to be seen.

“The chairperson contacted GISO of Busiu sub county Wanale Richard and then proceeded to Busiu police station to make a formal report,” Taitika said.

The postmortem from Mbale regional referral hospital, according to police indicated that Mukhaye Jesca was hit on the head by a blunt object before her death.

Locals and authorities have suspected that the husband was responsible for the murder citing that the two have been having a violent marriage and the husband is on the run.

“It’s suspected that Mungalya Vincent (husband to the deceased), is responsible for the murder because the two have been having a violent marriage and he is on the run,” Taitika said in a statement before adding that the two had been cohabiting for a year and had no children.

Police have commenced with inquiries after scene of crime officers and a homicide team visiting the scene.

Meanwhile, ASP Taitika urged the general public especially the married people to always apply legal means for solution in case of any misunderstanding between themselves.
