JUST IN: UPDF Helicopter Crashes in Fort Portal

Reports at the scene suggest that the helicopter reportedly crashed into a mud and wattle house at Saaka at 10a.m, just half a kilometer from the airfield.

FORT PORTAL, UGANDA: At least one person has been admitted to hospital after a Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) helicopter crashed in Fort Portal, Western Uganda.

The victim, an elderly woman only identified as Peruth was rushed to hospital following the chopper crash on Saturday morning.

The helicopter crashed into a mud and wattle house in which the woman was staying at around 10 a.m in Saaka, just half a kilometer from the airfield.

According to an eyewitness, three helicopters had just taken off from Saaka airfield but one of them crashed into the house.

Other witnesses said that two UPDF soldiers were seen disembarking from the helicopter.

UPDF soldiers have cordoned off the scene of the crash to prevent on-lookers from getting to it.

At the time of writing the story, UPDF was yet to make an official statement on the helicopter crash.
