Oyam police officer attacked by suspect during arrest, admitted

The victim, Solomon Angim, a police officer attached to Minakulu Police station was allegedly attacked by Lawrence Aloc, a resident of Akaidebe Cell, Minakulu town Council on Tuesday Afternoon.

OYAM, UGANDA: A police officer in Oyam district is battling for his life at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor after he was assaulted by the suspect he had gone to arrest.

The victim, Solomon Angim, a police officer attached to Minakulu Police station was allegedly attacked by Lawrence Aloc, a resident of Akaidebe Cell, Minakulu town Council on Tuesday Afternoon.

A police officer at Minakulu police station who asked for anonymity says Aloc alongside other two suspects had been arrested on Monday afternoon over a case of store breaking and theft.

However, On Tuesday afternoon, the suspect (Aloc) requested to be escorted for a nature call but all of a sudden he sped off towards the neighbouring Omoro District.

“We went to re-arrest him after a tip-off by locals that he was seen hiding in one village in Omoro. Upon seeing police officers who had gone to re-arrest, he entered a grass thatch house to pick up a weapon he used to attack our colleague on the head,” the officer said.

The Oyam District Police commander, Mr Innocent Mubangizi, when reached by this website for a comment confirmed the incident saying the suspect has been re-arrested and is in police custody at Oyam CPS while Angim is currently receiving treatment.

‘’Yes, I am aware. the suspect is in our custody and the officer is receiving treatment,’’ Mubangizi said without giving further details.

Celestino Omac, the suspect’s neighbour described him as a renowned drug abuser who has been breaking into people’s houses in their area.
