WATCH: Police release CCTV footage of horrible boda-boda accidents in Kampala

The video which has attracted both positive and negative criticism on social media shows numerous accidents that have happened in Kampala and the locations where the incidents happened.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in a move to caution motorists on road usage has released a compilation of CCTV footage showing boda boda accidents recorded in Kampala and its suburbs in the first two weeks of September.

The video which has attracted both positive and negative criticism on social media shows numerous accidents that have happened in Kampala and the locations where they happened.

The majority of the video shows how reckless driving by boda boda riders caused the accidents, while other parts of the video show errant drivers of vehicles including the police vehicles knocking boda boda riders in the middle of the road.

In the 2021 Annual Crime and Traffic/Road Safety Report that was released in May this year, of the 4,159 road accident fatalities countrywide, 1,390 were motorcyclists, while 528 were passengers on motorcycles.

According to the report, there were 17443 road accidents reported in 2021, an increase of 42% from the 12249 reported the previous year.

A survey by Uganda Road Fund also indicated that only one in every 10 riders received riding training from a professional instructor.
