KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Commander in Chief of the armed forces, President Museveni Tuesday promoted his son Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to a full General, the highest rank in the hierarchy of Uganda People’s Defence Forces.

According to highly placed sources inside the army, Gen Muhoozi has now been replaced by Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga who has also been promoted from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General.

Gen Muhanga is currently the commander of Operation Shujaa, a joint force army of the UPDF and the FADRC forces fighting the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in the eastern part of DRC.

The changes come shortly after Muhoozi on Tuesday morning revealed that he had just had a conversation with his father, saying the changes would be communicated later.

“Had a good discussion with my great father this morning. Apparently, my tweets scared Kenyans too much. He will announce the changes. There is a special prayer I shall make for our army,” he tweeted.

The four-star General has also edited his Twitter account bio bringing back his former title with SPA/SO (Senior Presidential Adviser/ Special operations), an implication that he has taken on his previous role held in the army years back.

Gen Muhoozi also announced he will hold city celebrations for the rank he has been gifted to by his father. “We are going to have a celebration down Kampala Road for this rank. I thank my father for this great honor! ?,” he tweeted this evening.
