Ugandan Opposition leader Mr Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has revealed that his Dubai charity concert has been cancelled just hours after he had been arrested, grilled and later released at the International airport in United Arab Emirates.
According to Bobi Wine, authorities in Dubai have been instructed by the Ugandan embassy in the United Arab Emirates to cancel his music concert that was set to take place today, Saturday, October 08, 2022.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader in a tweet said Ugandan authorities had been hard to ensure he doesn’t have the show in the Middle East country although the concert was intended to raise money for stranded Ugandans in Dubai to return home.
“Unfortunately our Charity Concert in Dubai has been cancelled! The venue owner has been instructed to cancel. The information available shows Ugandan authorities have been working tooth and nail to ensure it doesn’t happen!,” Bobi Wine said in a tweet.
“The first attempt was to deny me entry, and now this!” he added.
The Ugandan opposition politician further said that authorities at the Ugandan embassy led by the ambassador Mr Henry Mayiga allegedly informed the Dubai officials that Bobi Wine, a prolific political disruptor intends to sow a seed of defiance in the UAE and allegedly incite a replica of the Arab spring.
“We have been told that our own Embassy authorities told these UAE officials that we are preaching divisive politics and defiance,” Bobi explained in a live stream. “To my shock, the very government that was able to charter one flight for Museveni’s daughter to travel to Germany to give birth, for a sickly individual to go for treatment, has frustrated our efforts to have our brothers and sisters stuck in detention centres,” he said.
Bobi Wine was first arrested and detained at Dubai airport before being interrogated for about thirteen hours with both his phone and passport confiscated on arrival.
However, after being grilled for hours, he was freed at around 9;30am this morning with hopes of the concert happening which hasn’t happened still.
“After 12 hrs, (8:30 pm to 9:30 am) I’ve been finally allowed into Dubai. Hoping that our charity concert, which seemed to be the source of these issues, will be allowed to proceed. We’re only trying to raise awareness and assist the many Ugandan and African Immigrant workers.” Bobi tweeted at around 10am today morning.
