Now a Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Muhoozi joined the army in 1999 and has since then been promoted to various ranks over the years with the climax being last week’s promotion in what many viewed as preparing him to replace his father as Uganda’s President.

Many scholars have also observed that between now and 2026, President Museveni who has ruled Uganda since 1986 will likely retire his son from the army after the latter expressing interest in the bid for presidency come 2026.

Muhoozi joined the UPDF at the rank of officer cadet and graduated in 2000 from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the British Army’s officer training school.
