KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police at Kira Road have arrested a 28-year-old security guard after he was caught attempting to hire out guns and sell 31 bullets for 2000 shillings each.
The suspect identified as Okello Isaac attached to Saracen security company was netted on Tuesday in the process of selling his merchandise to one Okumu, who had already alerted police that the suspect was selling bullets and magazines at a cheap price.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Mr Patrick Onyango said officers at the scene of the crime recovered SMG Magazines and Bullets being sold at 100000 UGX and 2000UGX each respectively.
“The Police received information about this sale and he was consequently arrested red-handed during the sale. At the scene, officers recovered live ammunition and magazines. He was intending to sell to the buyer SMG magazines for Shs 100,000 and a bullet for Shs 2000 each,” Mr Onyango said.
Onyango explained that a search was also conducted at Okello’s residence in Gogonya, Makindye division where different parts of a riffle including Bionets, Pistol Magazines, SMG Magazines and other gun parts were recovered.
Saracen Security speaks out
The management of Saracen Security when contacted for a comment on this report admitted the suspect being their employee but said at the time of his arrest, he was not on official duty as he had asked for a leave, despite providing no evidence to prove the same.
In a phone conversation with this website, Mr Eric Musiimenta, the PRO of Saracen explained that even the exhibits which were found with the suspect did not belong to the company which he had left a month ago on official leave.
“Yes, we are aware of the arrest of one of our guards, but he has been on leave, for now, a month, and we, therefore, did not know where he had been ever since he was granted leave,” Musiimenta told this reporter.
He added the company is fully committed and cooperating with Police to ensure investigations go on smoothly, and promised to get back to this reporter when further details arise.
According to police, the suspect currently being detained at Ntinda Police Station will face charges of selling ammunition and illegal possession of Government stores.
