KIGALI, RWANDA: Senior Presidential Advisor in Charge of Special Operations Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba Sunday joined Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame in a Kigali Car Free Day walk.
Car Free Day is a mass sports event that occurs twice a month and serves to make Kigali a green city while promoting a healthy lifestyle. It was first introduced in 2016 as a method to provide areas for people to walk, unwind, and breathe clean air on Kigali’s streets.
It is also done to mobilise city residents for an active lifestyle as a way of preventing non-communicable diseases and used to contribute to the reduction of gas emissions.
Rwandans also use the day to have great cheer and socialisation and protect the environment.
Gen Muhoozi who is currently visiting Rwanda joined President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame participated along with the Rwandan Minister of Sports, Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju and the Mayor of Kigali City, Pudence Rubingisa.
The walk started at the Kigali Arena and ended at the Kigali Convention Center, covering a distance of 6kms.
Muhoozi who arrived in Kigali on Saturday, October 15, 2022, for a private visit to Rwanda was accompanied by friends, including veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda. This was the third visit to Rwanda and the second since March this year.
On Friday Muhoozi tweeted: “Happy to be back in the land of our ancestors. The tallest men on earth”.
Before his trip to Rwanda, he earlier he tweeted: “I miss my wise and great uncle. I will take a holiday on his farm. Graze Inyambo cattle and learn from him”.
The President of Rwanda last evening held a meeting with Gen Kainerugaba and the two are expected to have other engagements.
