Museveni appoints ex-Archbishop Orombi as new Muni University Chancellor

According to the Instrument dated September 28 2022 seen by this website, Orombi has been given a contract for a period of four years.

Former Archbishop, Henry Luke Orombi is the new Chancellor Muni University

KAMPALA, UGANDA: President Museveni has appointed former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi as the new Chancellor for Muni University, the only public University in the West Nile region.

Orombi will replace Dr Erick Tiyo Sekebuga Adriko, the first titular head of the institution who served for two terms following his installation in 2016.

According to the Instrument dated September 28 2022, Orombi has been given a contract for a period of four years.

“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 and acting on the recommendation of the University Council I, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni do hereby appoint Henry Luke Orombi as Chancellor of Muni University,” reads the Instrument of Appointment signed H.E the President of Uganda.

Kefa Atibuni, the Senior Communications Officer of the university confirmed the development to Uganda Radio Network URN noting that his appointment is a big blessing to the university.

Following his appointment, Archbishop Orombi pledged to provide strategic direction to the university. Orombi says he intends to work with all the stakeholders to ensure the university develops into one of the best institutions in the country.

Orombi served as Archbishop of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala Diocese from 2004 until his retirement in December 2012, two years earlier than expected.

Muni University is a Public university established by the Uganda Government by Statutory Instrument, 2013 No. 31, in accordance with the Universities & Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2006 as amended. Muni University campus is located in Arua City, 3Km South of Arua town in North-Western Uganda.

The University opened its doors for the first cohort of students in November 2014. Currently, the university has an enrolment of 676 students. The university started with one only Faculty of Technoscience but now has six other faculties offering 15 academic programmes.
