Father lynched by mob after beating 7-year-old son to death

It is alleged that Wotala assaulted his son over issues yet to be established and that it was after the beating that the juvenile died.

LUUKA, UGANDA: Police in Luuka district are actively investigating circumstances surrounding the alleged murder of a 7 year old juvenile by his father, and murder of the father by mob.

The deceased father has been identified as Wotala Brian 38, a resident of Budana A village Bukooma sub county in Luuka district.

The double murder incidents happened today (Thursday, 20th October, 2022) at around 10:00am.

According to Busoga North Police Spokesman ASP Michael Kasadha, “It is alleged that Wotala assaulted his son over issues yet to be established reasons and that it was after the beating that the juvenile died.”

“On learning of the occurrence, a group of angry people from the same area gathered and started hunting for Wotala before hitting and cutting him to death at his mother’s place, where he was hiding.”

According to Mr Kasadha, preliminary investigations indicate that the juvenile had been staying with the grandmother, ever since Wotala divorced his wife, mother to the deceased juvenile.

“The scene was visited by a team of detectives. From the scene blood stained hoes,hoe handles, sticks and other exhibits of evidential value were recovered,” Kasadha said in a Thursday police statement.

He added that the two bodies were evacuated to Kiyunga Health Centre IV where postmortem was conducted as further inquiries are ongoing.
