KAMPALA, UGANDA: Uganda’s first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has made it clear that he wants to become the country’s President one day to ‘repay’ his great-mother; Mrs Janet Museveni.

Gen Muhoozi who is now the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations made the announcement in a brief Tweet on Thursday afternoon setting his sights on the country’s highest office.

“The only way I can re-pay my great mother is by being President of Uganda! And I shall definitely do it!!,” the former SFC and Land Forces Commander tweeted Thursday.

Earlier, Gen Muhoozi had earlier tweeted First Lady Janet Museveni’s photo, likening her to an angel. “My mother has always been an angel for me. She is simply perfect! Like most men feel for their mothers!!!” the 48-year-old four-star General tweeted at about 3 am Thursday morning.

This is not the first time that Gen Muhoozi has made such public proclamations about eyeing the presidency.

In May this year, just as he emerged from a string of celebrations organized by his supporters around the country to mark his birthday, Muhoozi hinted at taking power in Uganda with some even holding processions in Kampala (the country’s capital) holding posters reading Muhoozi for 2026.

Muhoozi would then go on in a series of provoking tweets signal that he is ready for the big seat amidst divided groups within the ruling government.

“The enemies fought us for so long!,” said Muhoozi in a veiled reference to critics and insiders who quietly resisted his rise in the army ranks.

“They (enemies) abused me with every name they could find! Now they can’t believe we have taken over the country. We will not stop until we are in complete control!” he emphasized.

During the same birthday celebrations at State House Entebbe, First Lady Janet Museveni appeared to be endorsing Muhoozi for the presidency as she asked her ‘son’ to pray to God to bless “this journey that you have started” and obey God’s command.

“From his (Muhoozi) love for God, that’s how he is honest and humble. I want to say to Muhoozi today at 48, God will never leave us nor forsake us. Please strive in all you do to love God with all your heart and serve him because he has used you to serve your country with dedication,” Mrs Museveni said.

In reference at a party hosted after he handed over the office of the Commander of Land Forces recently, Muhoozi said, “I thank President Museveni for giving me this opportunity. I am happy to be with my generation.”

Hadijah Namyalo one of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders supporting a seventh term for Mr Museveni who has been in power since 1986 when he shot his way to State House, says the country needs the services of Muhoozi as an army commander.

Muhoozi dropped from the amry

Earlier this month, Gen Muhoozi after satirically tweeting that he and his army would capture Nairobi, Kenya’s capital in two weeks was relieved of his duties as commander of the land forces and replaced by his long-time ally, Gen Kayanja Muhanga.

However, the First son was in a shocking revelation instead promoted by father Yoweri Kaguta Museveni from the rank of a Lt Gen to a full General of the Ugandan Military, and subsequently appointed his advisor on special operations.
