Police busts criminal gangs in Wakiso, 160 arrested

The arrest followed a Joint intelligence-led operation conducted in the areas of Nakuwadde, Kireka, Bulenga, Kikaya and Gogonya villages in Wakiso sub-county, Wakiso district on Friday, October 28, 2022, at around 3 am.

WAKISO, UGANDA: The Territorial Police in Wakiso district have arrested 160 suspected criminal gangs who have allegedly been terrorising residents over the past months.

The arrest followed a Joint intelligence-led operation conducted in the areas of Nakuwadde, Kireka, Bulenga, Kikaya and Gogonya villages in Wakiso sub-county, Wakiso district on Friday, October 28, 2022, at around 3 am.

The Kampala Police Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest, stressing that the operation was due to public outcry following increased criminality in the said areas.

“We received information that criminal elements frequent B 13 bar in Nakuwade, and we stormed the hideout. A group of B13 criminal gang was arrested,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added, “The suspects are currently detained at different police stations in Wakiso Policing area pending prosecution. Exhibits of narcotic substances and suspected stolen items were recovered from the suspects.”

The KMP deputy PRO promised to avail more details as soon as possible, insisting that the operation is continuous.
