Shock as vehicle catches fire along Kampala-Masaka highway

Preliminary details indicate that the incident happened at around 8:40 am as the driver of the vehicle Joshua Emorut was driving towards Masaka city from Kampala.

KAYABWE, UGANDA: Traffic police at Kayabwe Thursday morning registered an incident of fire that gutted a vehicle along the Kampala-Masaka highway. The incident involved a blue Range Rover Sport of registration number UAS O66Q.

Preliminary details indicate that the incident happened at around 8:40 am as the driver of the vehicle Joshua Emorut was driving towards Masaka city from Kampala.

Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic police Directorate spokesperson says the vehicle developed a mechanical fault and smoke began fuming from the engine. She adds that the driver instantly parked it upon alert by other motorists.

The police say efforts by the locals to put out the fire went futile and the car burnt to ashes.
