KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in Kampala is investigating circumstances under which a private guard attached to GKO Security Company was hacked by unknown assailants and made away with his gun.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened at around 7:30 pm in Magere cell in Kasangati on Monday, November 21, 2022.

“A security guard belonging to GKO security company was attacked while heading to his beat and cut by unidentified assailants at about 7:30 PM in Magere cell, Kasangati and his gun taken,” Owoyesigyire said.

Owoyesigyire noted that upon being informed of the attack, the police team responded and took the guard to Mulago hospital for treatment while the search for the gun has commenced.

The development comes at a time when attacks are on the rise targeting security personnel by unknown assailants who in all similar cases make away with guns.

Last month, armed assailants attacked Busiika Police station in Luweero district in an incident that happened at around 7 pm.

Similarly, another group of assailants attacked a mini-checkpoint, one kilometre away from the main checkpoint to the UPDF Gaddafi barracks in Jinja.

The assailants who seem to have been monitoring the activities at the mini-checkpoint struck and killed Sgt Eyamu Simon Peter, aged 45 who had been left alone with two guns after his colleague had gone to nearby shops to buy something at around 9 pm. They killed Eyamu and went away with the two guns.

Two people, including the UPDF officer who had gone for some errands away from the checkpoint, have since been arrested to aid in investigations.
