BUDAKA, UGANDA; Serere County Member of Parliament (MP) Bishop Patrick Okabe and his wife Christine Okabe have perished in a Monday morning road crash in Budaka along the Mbale-Tirinyi road.

The pair together with their driver only identified as Jacob were travelling to Kampala when their vehicle, a Land Cruiser registration number UBK 995F collided with an Isuzu cargo truck registration number KCX 071K at Nabowa trading centre in Budaka district.

Hon Okabe died on the spot while his wife succumbed to injuries on the way to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

Traffic Police Spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima Monday said the driver is currently admitted in critical condition at Mbale regional referral hospital, while the truck driver took immediately after the incident.

“The cause of the accident has been attributed to the Isuzu box body driver who drifted from his side to the side of the Land cruiser that was coming from Mbale heading to Iganga and had a head-on collision,” ASP Nampiima said.
