NAMUTUMBA, UGANDA: The state minister for housing who is also the Member of Parliament Bukono constituency in Namutumba district, Hon Persis Namuganza has committed herself to stand with MPs who are standing with her amid the censure saga.

Namuganza is currently in dilemma after parliament of Uganda passed a motion to censure her on accusations of corruption in carrying out Nakawa-Naguru land allocations during her reign as state minister for lands despite purporting to have received directives from President Museveni.

The minister made the remarks on Friday at Ivukula church of Uganda in Namutumba district when she hosted the Archbishop the Rev. Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu in her constituency as he was ending his three-day pastoral visit in Central Busoga Diocese.

“I want to commend all Hon MPs standing with me especially those who have attended this function. Some are busy spotting MPs to include in their black book but they decided to come and be blacklisted good enough we’re in the white book before God. And I promise you Hon MPs, I want to commit myself that though some people are seated in their committees now you have decided to join me, I, therefore, promise that I will also be with you,” Minister Namuganza said.

It should be noted that parliament recently led by deputy speaker Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, instituted a committee to further investigate the censure of Namuganza but she promised not to step in any instituted committee.

Among the MPs who attended, Hon Moses Muwanika alias Onkokomweru of Kagoma county in Jinja district said that fellow MPs have since blacklisted them to the extent of accusing them to have received money from the housing minister in line with bribing MPs to forego appending their signatures on censure matter, something Muwanika says it’s not true.

“I will not talk about what you locals are thinking. Archbishop, I was accused by some MPs in parliament that I was distributing money from Hon Minister Namuganza to stop signatures for censure but people should know that I do things without considering financial gains but for the good of it,” Hon Muwanika said.

Minister later handed 50 million Uganda shillings from president Museveni to the Archbishop as a fulfilment of the presidential pledge to finish the construction of the archdeacon’s house in Ivukula Archdeaconry.

Archbishop Dr Kaziimba Mugalu commended President Museveni for supporting the construction work and urged the believers to always trust God and avoid believing in witchcraft. He also tasked parents to educate their children such that they can make good leaders in the future.

Dr Kaziimba started his visit on Wednesday, January 11, by commissioning a maize flour mill in Nakalama sub-county and a dormitory at Leura school of nursing and midwifery before leading a groundbreaking and fundraising ceremony for constructing a diocesan cathedral of central Busoga diocese on Thursday. At fundraising, the diocese registered around 100 million with at least 25 million in cash.

The function was attended by the Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula, the clergy, justice Catherine Bamugemeraire of the constitutional court, Hon MPs, RDCs, politicians, and locals, among others.
