Kampala Standard Primary School scores 100% single digit first grade in 2022 PLE Results

KPS Kyanja as it is popularly known had all their 17 pupils who sat for last year’s exams excelling not only in the first division but with a single-digit grade (below 10 aggregates) posting a 100 percent passing rate in their pioneer year of competing at the national level.

As schools continue to celebrate their pupil’s performance in the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Kampala Standard Primary and Nursery School in Kyanja has taken the country by storm after it ranked among the top PLE performers in the capital of Kampala.

KPS Kyanja as it is popularly known had all their 17 pupils who sat for last year’s exams excelling not only in division one but with a single-digit grade (below 10 aggregates) posting a 100 percent first grade in their pioneer year of competing at the national level.

According to results seen by this website, of the 17 pupils, 10 were males while 7 were females, with the two best performers returning 5 aggregate points. Seven other pupils scored an aggregate of 6, while the rest were between 7 and 9 as shown in the table below;

The school started operating last year after the covid-19 lockdown was uplifted, and this was the inaugural year of having candidates sit for the Primary Leaving Exam (PLE), a national assessment that determines the pupil’s next step towards secondary education in the country.

“Being our pioneer year, we strategically planned for this class,” Mr Simon Mugaaju, the headteacher of Kampala Standard Primary School said shortly after receiving the PLE results.

“We deployed competent staff who managed the pupils and we constantly screened all levels of content delivery from the word go,” he added.

According to Mr Mugaaju, the school employed strategic programmes that help them to spot individuals child challenges.

“Also being that our numbers are manageable, as one of the strategic plans by management, there’s intensive close supervision that is attached to learning. It also gives priority to individualistic learning where each child participates as much as possible in the class instructions.”

Besides academics, Kampala Standard Primary School extends special programs for children in collaboration with UK and USA-based schools and organisations, the programs include exchange visits between UK, USA and Ugandan teachers and pupils.

The school also has a young Engineers program that helps to boost pupils’ critical thinking and lots of co-curricular activities that include swimming, scouting, sports, and agriculture value addition among others.

While KPS teaches Uganda’s national curriculum, a blended mix of international content is adopted in order to make it holistic for children to learn with ease.

On 14th February 2023, a team from EDL and little children of Jesus christ based in Sacramento, California USA will visit Kampala Standard and Kentim School of Health sciences to interact with pupils, students and management.

In August 2023, a soccer team from Kentim Sports Academy and Kampala Standard Primary School-Kyanja will play a friendly match at a football camp in London, UK.

KPS is credited for instilling discipline, commitment to self-esteem and confidence in pupils, science and innovation, social etiquette and grooming pupils into God-fearing citizens.

The school was in 2021 ranked number four on the list of the top 20 Primary Schools in Kampala, in an anonymous poll released by Public Opinions International Ltd.
