IGANGA, UGANDA: Some of the top schools in Iganga district which flourished in Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) have attributed their success to the relationship between the school administration and the parents.
The 2022 PLE results released last week on Friday by UNEB saw a number of private schools taking a lead in performance across Iganga district.
Among the schools which topped in the district included Musana Mixed primary school at Bukoona village in Nakalama sub-county which got 100% in division one after registering 34 pupils. Another sister centre of the school; Musana Children’s Home registered 88 pupils and 64 passed in division one and the rest in division two.
The two are sister schools under the Musana community development organization(MCDO) which targets vulnerable children and orphans.
Speaking to DailyExpress yesterday (Monday), Mr Yonah Ibanda, the public relations officer of MCDO said their relationship with parents enabled them to perform better with the best pupils getting 5 aggregates.
“We laboured to prepare our pupils because even during the COVID-19 times, we would send them packages to help them progress academically and when they returned, we tried to cover the syllabus as faster as possible,” Mr Ibanda said; before the school principal, Micheal Nalugoda commended fellow administrators for producing quality first grades.
Dawn Prime Academy, located in Iganga municipality was among the best schools after succeeding in first and second divisions. The director of the school Ms Mpaabe Justine told this publication that they registered 171 pupils and 133 scored in division one while the rest in division two. Their two best pupil scored 5 aggregates.
“We registered 171 pupils and 133 passed in division one as well as 38 in division two. We appreciate God for the grace and we appreciate our teachers for the commendable job and our good relationship with parents has been key in our success,” Ms Justine Mpaabe said.
Another primary school which shinned in 2022 PLE results was Iganga Boy’s boarding primary school found at CMS in Bulamagi sub-county. The school also flourished with 85 pupils in division one and 4 pupils in division two after registering 89 pupils. This was confirmed by the school Headteacher, Mr Daniel Okoth.
“I want to appreciate God for enabling teachers to deliver to our expectations and the education office for guiding us on how to manage the school. The parents have supported this school by paying school fees in time and providing the children with all school requirements,” says Mr Okoth.
Kigulu Hill primary school as well registered success for their pupils in divisions one and two. The school which is situated in Iganga town registered 41 pupils in total, and 37 passed in division one while 4 passed in division two.
“I want to appreciate my staff, pupils, parents and the non-teaching staff for the commendable job to success. We registered 41 pupils and 37 scored in division one with the best six pupils scoring 7 aggregates and 4 in division two,” The school Headteacher Naigembe Proscovia said before urging parents to continue working closely with the school and supporting them like before.
The deputy director of studies at Kigulu Hill P/S Mpongo Kairu Ronald says they had some underprivileged children who have been benefiting from school assistance but managed to perform well. He urged government and other organizations to support them through sponsorships such that they realize their future dreams.
